Cogon Completes Successful Live User Testing

of Pensacola Health Information Utility

Pensacola, FL – January 25, 2010 – Cogan Systems, Inc. (COGON) has announced the successful completion of live user testing last month of the Pensacola Health Information Utility, the technical health information exchange infrastructure for Strategic Health Intelligence, LLC (SHI).

This round of testing in a full production environment validated the sharing of more than thirty thousand medical records of active duty military personnel and their dependents that receive medical care at Sacred Heart Health System and Naval Hospital Pensacola. Using Cogon’s Virtual Health Network, for the first time ever, this information can now be securely shared and accessed by civilian and military doctors caring for these patients. “We hope that this project will demonstrate the value of data sharing in elevating care to the folks that serve our country,” said Dr. Huy Nguyen – founder of Cogon who led the effort to build the system.

Cogon’s Virtual Health Network connects physicians and hospitals together based on the model of a public utility. Strategic Health Intelligence is now prepared to expand the health information utility to close to 500,000 records being shared by early next year as Baptist Health System begins to share its patient records. “This project is important because it is the largest example of two data hubs; military and civilian, sharing information, and now over 80% of the patients in this community will soon have medical records securely shared and accessed, said Dr. Huy Nguyen. “Through our successful partnership with SHI, Pensacola is uniquely positioned to become one of the first digital health communities in the nation as a template as we head towards the NHIN vision,” Dr. Nguyen said.
