Pensacola, FL – January 19, 2010 – Cogon Systems, Inc (COGON) has realigned its organizational structure, vision, and mission in order to capitalize on 1) its long-standing investment in web-based health information exchange utilizing a cutting-edge service-oriented architectural approach; and 2) its recent strategic merger with Omada Technology Solutions with its deep experience in healthcare information exchange governance and technical architecture.

In order to position Cogon to capture the sizable and growing opportunity in health information exchange as a result of the HITECH Act, Cogon recently merged with Omada Technology Solutions and added its two leading principals to its senior management.  Dr. Huy Nguyen, Cogon’s CEO, stated, “We are fortunate that long-standing relationships with top caliber people like Mr. Dougherty and Mr. Phillips have converged with an accelerating opportunity in health information exchange.”  ‘With the Omada merger, Cogon is strategically aligning its organization and its resources to maximize the opportunity presented by the exploding HIT market,” Dr. Nguyen further added.

Ken Dougherty, a 15 year veteran of the software consulting industry especially focused on Public Health Informatics and Health IT, has come on board as Vice President of Business Development.  Sandy Phillips, involved in computer consulting and computer operations, mostly in healthcare settings, comes on board as Vice President of Program Management.  Mr. Phillips has worked for consulting firms; Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), KPMG Consulting, and Accenture; for Jackson Health System in Miami, FL as CIO, and as a Health Information Exchange (HIE) expert for Perot Systems Corporation.

Cogon's vision moving forward is to be the leading facilitator of healthcare connectedness via value-driven innovations and comprehensive thought leadership.  Cogon’s mission is to facilitate healthcare data interoperability, develop client-focused applications, and offer comprehensive healthcare consulting services.  Its new structure is aligned along three service lines:  1) healthcare information exchange services via Cogon’s standards-based and web-based platform - the Virtual Health Network - that interconnects existing, diverse sources of information and ensures value by tying healthcare connectedness to successful data utilization; 2) client-focused applications that complement health information exchanges in order to improve the delivery of care; and 3) comprehensive healthcare consulting services that position providers, government agencies, corporate entities, and other  organizations to navigate and benefit from healthcare information technology and healthcare reform.

Because of its early and long-standing investment in healthcare data interoperability, its keen understanding of clinical practice, and now premier consulting expertise in health information exchange, Cogon is well positioned to offer a wide range of technical and consulting services to the broad healthcare market.  More than ever, it is about connected, value-driven healthcare.
