Our Virtual Health Network (VHN)
Cogon facilitates health information exchanges through its Virtual Health Network platform, whereby facilities have the ability to free their information for potential, secure access for those with authorization. This allows data owners to share only the information they want with the facilities and providers that make sense, while also allowing them to bring relevant medical records from outside their facility in – all with the goal of providing better patient care. Cogon provides a solution that will find, compile, and present this data to caregivers in a manner that will allow them to make the best decisions. Cogon’s ground-breaking effort to exchange health information between multiple, civilian provider organizations and military providers in Pensacola uniquely positions them to provide a SOA-based platform using an enterprise service bus that provides business logic flexibility, network scalability, and application extensibility to create health information exchanges. The Virtual Health Network is implemented with basic services that facilitate the exchange of health information supporting referral management of patients who receive care from multiple providers. These basic services include continuity of care document, patient demographic and administrative information, diagnoses/problem list, providers, allergies, medications, laboratory results, radiology results, previous procedures, and clinical notes.

The Advanced Applications Group not only facilitates the underlying technology of our VHN, they create and integrate solutions that leverage and extend the functionality of the VHN. This provides scalable functionality to the participating organizations to enhance the quality of patient care and visit experience by providing the desired information to the care provider in a timely and concise manner. The Advanced Applications Group also collaborates with a growing list of application partners to develop applications that can ride on the VHN and facilitate value-driven healthcare. An example of a service that might ride on the VHN is a tissue and organ donation notification system to facilitate donor matching within a community.
